Biography

Nathan Garnett, born in 1975, had a creative up-bringing, His Mother Julia being an artist and art teacher at Tara Girls High. This background gave him the insight to techniques such as perspective, composition and the all-important vanishing point.

He discovered how to make 3D imagery involving the blue/cyan glasses in year 7 on his Amiga 512k and won a guest role on an episode of ALF, taking his unexpected parents to L.A. (1987).
Nathan created several short films with the advent of his first video camera at age fifteen, editing with the only post production technology available to him; record, pause/unpause + play - to VHS.

One of these videos (a send-up of a Coca-Cola Commercial) won him the third place (and a bunch of AV equipment) in the grand final of Australia's Funniest Home Video Show in 1992.

During a traineeship in television production and post-production at The Australian Film, Television & Radio School (1994 - 1998), Nathan quickly took to the facilities and wrote, produced, directed, edited and acted in a variety of short films and documentaries and instigated the annual Radio Students Graduation Video which was screened at their event.

As Assistant Editor on series including Farscape and The Wiggles at The Frame, Set & Match Post-Production facility (from 1998), Nathan came across the idea of mixing and shuttling (at different speeds) two videos simultaneously and thought that this would be a great thing to perform live.

After the sell-out season of his theatrical production "Wish" (a musical where the lead actor interacted with life-sized projected characters and imagery in 1999) at his Paddington-Based studio, Nathan traveled to South East Asia for a nine month study into ancient architecture and archipelago civilisation.

During a short stint as lighting director on the Soviet Space-Shuttle exhibition in Pyrmont and performing as a water-tank cyclist in the Tin Symphony segment of the Opening of the Olympic Games in 2000, Nathan created "Stamp Productions"; originally a graphic design venture, it ended up as the visual force dominating the Tank Nightclub for the next six years (2001 - 2007) where He was given free reign to project his weekly creations two or even three nights a week - a perpetuating gallery of his experiences, video art and experimentation, viewed by hundreds of thousands of patrons.

After this Nathan went on an educational hiatus in the role of Technical Assistant at Metro Screen (2007). It was here he began his first administrative role as well as starting up a Kayaking tour project in Sydney Harbour

The late part of the decade saw him busy in AV work with various companies to learn about big-gig projections and all things AV. His comic book creation "The AVenger" comes to life.

After an extended VJ tour of Europe (2008) including the fabled MTW Club in Frankfurt, Nathan started working with the long-time East-Coast Guru of VJs, Mike Crane of Eyebyte, to display a myriad of screen design and content to the dance party and music festival masses.

With a background of narrative and non-narrative video editing, themed visual ThemeScapes; video compositing, live VJ performance, AV tech, passion and conscientious perfection, Nathan has set his sights upon creating multiple projector theme-scape installations to entertain.
